Feb 2021 New: 2 Types of Online Math Classes
In this age of technology, we are able to rent a mansion across the world, buy the latest gear, talk to friends, all without leaving the comfort of our home.

This age of the internet can be summed up in one word, convenience.

This ease of life, courtesy of technology, could not come at a better time and the people love it.

Now more than ever as we adjust to life during this Covid nightmare.

People are scared to leave their homes and places of business are shutting down.

One thing that doesn't seem to receive as much attention is the fact that our schools are either on a go-slow or have completely ceased operation.

From day-care centers, high-schools and universities, students don’t show up to class and neither do the teachers.

The demand for online math classes are now increasing.

I'm the author of this article and I'm a qualified abacus teacher, answering questions from around the world online abacus and various questions from online-soroban.com students.

1. Online Math Classes for Young Hungry Minds

Online Math Classes for Young Hungry Minds

Problem-solving is one of the most crucial requirements in today’s world and it is safe to say that mathematics is the key tool required for arriving at solutions for complex problems.

With the pandemic, the different continents are all facing the same problem; learning is at a standstill.

A frightening thought indeed.

It is only logical, therefore, that we look towards technology to fill the gap left by the mandatory lock-down/quarantine.

With all the benefits the internet has brought to our lives, it would be a crime against progress not to take the same ease, the same convenience, the same fix, and apply it to the education sector.

There are dozens of online classes and a google search should get you started with a couple of options.

1-1.Types Of Math Classes Online

Types Of Math Classes Online
There are many types of math programs with deep roots in the online community.

Hybrid programs encompass both online and on-ground classes, while other courses are taught 100 percent online.

Most online math classes tend to adopt one of two format options: Asynchronous online learning Asynchronous classes are also described as, or self-paced learning abacus programs.

Here the course syllabus/material is prepared and recorded in advance.

Depending on your learning preference, this may be good or bad.

Discipline and time management are necessary personality traits when learning from prerecorded sessions; lest you end up cramming all 13 lessons into the last week of the semester.

Seeing as there is no instructor to push you forward, self-paced learning requires a steely responsibility.

You should be able to hold yourself accountable for keeping up with the course work.

This can understandably be quite the challenging aspect with regard to this online learning format.

It’s not all doom and gloom though; a significant advantage offered by asynchronous programs is the level of flexibility offered.

Allowing you to study and do assignments at your leisure, whenever convenient.

Synchronous online learning Synchronous or live online abacus classrooms are taught in real-time with both the student and instructor logging in remotely via Skype or Zoom.

Learning in real-time with other students—and having the opportunity to engage with fellow classmates and the professor—can recreate feelings similar to that of a brick-&-mortar class.

Students may respond better to this method of teaching as it is a setting that they are used to.

The main disadvantage here is the requirement of live classes to be logged in on specific dates at specific times throughout the semester.

The lack of which shall bring consequences.

Having to attend class on a regular basis does help keep students on-track and accountable, however, not everyone is able to make it; depending on their schedule.

This format is especially tricky for working folks, single parents, and other people with day-to-day responsibilities that must be met.

When looking for an online abacus course, remember to be specific. Do you wish to learn algebra, fractions, or geometry?

Maybe you want to brush up on probability, linear algebra, geometric transformations, binomials, polynomials.

With the plethora of math classes out there, synchronous and asynchronous, do your due diligence to avoid choosing the wrong one.

1-2.Learning Math Using Technology

Learning Math Using Technology
The Right Level First and foremost you need to find the right grade level abacus course for you.

Grade school arithmetic, high school math, pregraduate or postgraduate studies; choose the level you want to study at and start from there.

Most online courses are divided by level of difficulty - beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Take a look at the syllabus before signing up to make sure the course fits your learning needs.

Look for programs that are self-paced; they don’t rush you and you’re able to proceed at whatever speed you feel comfortable with.

Each program has different strengths and one might focus on teaching calculus, while its counterparts might be better at algebra.

Concise Curriculum I think we can all agree math isn’t the easiest subject out there.

Some concepts can be difficult for you to wrap your head around, especially if you lack a firm abacus background.

Search for a tutor who is able to explain flash anzan in a clear, concise manner that you can understand.

Read the reviews and see what other students have to say.

The Instructor Your tutor doesn't need to have two PhDs and a master’s in calculus to be “the one”.

An instructor with a strong grasp of the key concepts the course offers is all you need.

There are carefully tailored classes for students of different learning speeds- choose the one that suits you the best.

Read the reviews and don't be afraid to ask questions.

You can contact the institution directly via email or phone to get more information on their classes.

Some popular FREE mathematics courses offered online include Online Soroban’s abacus educational courses and games.

Students who complete their studies here will be awarded certification and can even have the opportunity to teach.

1-3. Supplementary Math Classes For Struggling Students

Supplementary Math Classes For Struggling Students
In many cases, students who are intimidated by math take their courses online to avoid feeling embarrassed in front of others.

Students struggling with mathematical concepts can benefit from an early introduction to supplementary classes with the aim of improving their math know-how, ultimately preventing ignorance related failure later in life.

An effective supplemental abacus program should easily complement any core curriculum side by side as a means to help absorb and retain information quicker than relying solely on the core curriculum.

Recent technological breakthroughs have enabled the use of artificial intelligence and open-response questioning to identify exactly where the student needs help, what they know, and how to best approach the issue.

It is not unusual to find supplementary programs that facilitate the application of arithmetic through rigorous practice and advanced games.

Programs such as the Online Soroban’s curriculum adaptive instruction, video games, and digital project-based learning to get students out of their shells and on the path to success.

Some popular supplementary methods include teaching abacus students to think mathematically instead of memorizing the multiplication table and such.

Singapore math is reminiscent of abacus arithmetic; it’s a three-step process that first teaches mechanically learning a concept, then through a pictorial visualization method, and finally abstract learning and problem-solving.

There are also schools that find a balance and introduces concepts at a slightly slower pace.

Our soroban school provides math games, activities, and worksheets.

We also provide a well-produced and highly engaging abacus class while others may consider it a negative since they feel tied down with the requirement of using video.

Overall
It’s important you have an idea of what kind of online math help you’re looking for.

Are you learning to help with your math homework, do you need a tutor to help you prepare for an exam, are you signing up as a substitute for the school, or are you just after a few sessions to sharpen up your math skills?

Choose the online math class that works for you and get a definite advantage in the workforce.
